Gymnadenia densiflora

Marsh fragrant orchid

Photographed Glamorgan, Wales, 22 June 1997

Negative number 97s13a

This tall orchid likes an alkaline marshy habitat unlike the much shorter G. borealis which prefers an acid marshy habitat. G. conopsea prefers an alkaline grassland habitat. The labellum has a different shape to the other two species. Prior to DNA sequencing this species was regarded as a sub-species of G. conopsea.
